GitHub Integration

Sidequest talks to GitHub through the gh CLI. Install it, run gh auth login, and any project whose origin remote points at github.com gains the features below. Nothing is sent anywhere but GitHub, and Sidequest never creates or merges pull requests on its own — the agent runs gh pr create when you ask it to.

Right-click a project and choose Issues…. The dialog lists up to 500 open issues with a search box that matches title, #number, label or author. Select an issue to read it (with rendered markdown and images), then:

  • Open on GitHub — open it in your browser.
  • Start quest — immediately creates an active Worktree quest on the current branch, titled after the issue, with a prompt built from the issue body and comments, and linked to the issue. No form; the quest starts right away.

Issues that already have a quest show a has a quest badge.

Tick GitHub Issues in the Create Quest dialog to search and select open issues. Selecting one fills the prompt with the issue’s title, body, comments and linked issues so the agent has the full context. With two or more selected, choose a Quest creation mode:

  • One quest per issue (default) — creates one quest for each; the button reads Create N Quests.
  • One quest for all selected issues — a single quest whose prompt covers them all.

Quest cards show small GitHub badges, polled every 60 seconds:

  • Issue badge — green when open, purple when closed. The tooltip lists each linked issue.
  • Pull-request badge — the newest PR for the quest’s branch: green open, grey draft, purple merged, red closed. A PR merged while the quest is still active turns amber and the card’s status reads Ready to close.

Click a badge to open the issue or PR. Option-click the PR badge of a Worktree quest to pick a different PR to track (search by title, number, author or branch); Follow the quest’s branch returns to the automatic lookup. Review quests always track the PR they were created for.

If GitHub is unreachable or rate-limited, existing badges stay as they were rather than disappearing.

A Review quest fetches a pull request’s head branch into its own worktree and sends the agent /review <number> (or your project’s Review Template). If the PR branch is checked out elsewhere on your machine, the quest checks out the fetched commit detached so your checkout is untouched. See Quest Types.

Sidequest configures each new worktree’s branch to track the base branch, so gh pr create inside a quest targets the right branch without flags. Ask the agent to “open a PR for this” when the work is done, or add that to a supervisor’s close completed quests criteria so finished quests are archived once their PR exists and CI is green.

The Open Remote menu item on a project or quest opens the repository (or the quest’s branch) in your browser.
